Setting goals for the upcoming season, the boys volleyball team has begun practicing in anticipation of finding success and competing with rival teams. Last season the team lost in the first round of sectionals. This year, they hope to rebound and grow.

This season, the team will see many athletes returning from last year. Senior Andru Wright is one of those returners. With this being Wright’s final season as a Warrior, he shares a common goal with other teammates, and that is to make it past the first round of sectionals.

“This season will be different because we are going to be better prepared and disciplined as a team,” Wright said.

For Wright and his fellow seniors on the team, this is their final chance to be able to leave a mark at Warren. This season may be their chance to do so.

“As a senior I want to be remembered as a difference maker on and off the court,” Wright said.

From personal goals to team goals, the volleyball team is striving to find success and working to improve.

“We are preparing for this season by practicing almost every day and working hard,” sophomore Isaac Wilson said.

Separating this year from last year is a key focus of the team. By doing this, they are looking to the future for brighter opportunities. Breaking free of the past season will be a challenge nonetheless, but the boys say there is much more to look forward to this year. One leading role in separating the two seasons is the coaching change.

This year, Preparing for College and Careers teacher DaBreonna Doss has taken over as the head coach. Working with players to improve and zone in on skills is once again another reason the team is looking ahead.

“Coaching will definitely play a big part in how our team does this season,” sophomore Jack Basham said. “And I feel that it would be a positive change. Coach Doss is really good at teaching techniques whether you are new or have played before. She can hone each of your abilities, and she’s getting our team in the weight room, which is good because around half if not more don’t take weights. Overall she’s a really good coach.”

Although Basham has only known Doss for a few weeks so far, he said she is bringing a lot to the table for the team, including a positive and helpful outlook on the season. Along with winning, Coach Doss wants to improve players’ abilities and looks to build team morale.

“I am definitely looking forward to players' hustle and ability to focus,” she said. “I am looking forward to improvement and the record going up from last season.”

Since this season is Coach Doss’ first season coaching boys volleyball, along with that comes goals and expectations for the year.

“My goal is to build community and discipline so that we can be able to go out there and do what we need to do when we go to games and tournaments," Doss said.
