Coach Crumlin, the head coach for boys golf, is looking forward to what the team can build off last year that will help them come into the new season.

“One of the key things we have this year is experience, which we somewhat lacked last year,” he said.

According to Crumlin, accountability is a key factor for the team to reach the state this year.

“We won’t win off of the strength of one player, so it will be imperative that we can keep one another accountable when we aren’t having the best days and uplift each other so we can reach our common goal,” he said.

Sophomore Noah Hess and junior Connor Lee are both preparing for the upcoming season by working on their technique.

“I am trying to get to know the newcomers while also working on certain parts of my game to improve them further ahead of the new season,” Hess said.

                 Lee’s process is similar.

“I’ve been preparing for this season since the end of the last one,” he said. “The majority of that time is being used to improve in areas that I struggled in and keep a great mindset.”

Every successful team has leaders who keep other players accountable and show great traits of leadership, and Hess and Connor are trying to become leaders on the team.

“I try my best to make sure that everyone feels comfortable enough with me that they feel at home,” Hess said. “I also help them improve at things they struggle with.”

Lee also wants to help his fellow golfers reach their goals.

“I show leadership by coaching up the other players whether that be a teammate that is inexperienced or a teammate that is a veteran,” he said.

The group has many team goals for the season, but the athletes also have personal goals that they have set for themselves.

“One of my personal goals is to become more relaxed because I believe that I play better  when I’m less tense,” Hess said.

A goal that Connor hopes to achieve is to beat Lawrence Central and “take home the trophy that we lost by one stroke last year.”

Hess and Lee both believe the most important factor to their reaching state is keeping a mindset of discipline throughout the entirety of the season while also keeping the feeling of determination and pride continuous.
