Lilo and Stitch: Live Action (Preview)

Audiences are excited for the new Disney live-action remake of “Lilo & Stitch” starring the lovable alien that Disney fans adore. This remake is scheduled to release on May 23, 2025, and people will be able to go to AMC or Cinemark theaters to watch it.

Based on what has been shown through the trailers and clips that have been released so far, that the whole family can enjoy and laugh at. It will bring a nostalgic feeling to the original “Lilo & Stitch” fans.

The movie, like the original, will be a mix of science fiction and comedy. It is rated PG and is acceptable for kids to watch. In the movie, Maia Kealoha stars as Lilo Pelekai, Sydney Agudong stars as Nani Pelekai, Dr. Jumba Jookiba is played by Zach Galifianakis and Billy Magnussen stars as Pleakley. And returning to voice Stitch once again is Chris Sanders.

The budget for this movie is estimated to be over $100 million, which is higher than the original cartoon version with its budget of $80 million. The director for the movie is Dean Camp, and the music in the movie is by Dan Romer. This remake tells the story of Lilo and Stitch and how Stitch first comes to Earth and is being targeted by the United Galactic Federation for being a dangerous experiment.

From the clips that fans can see from trailers, the plot seems very similar to the animated original. Stitch seems to be posing as a dog on an island in Hawaii, as a way to hide from the United Galactic Federation. He then gets adopted by 6-year-old Lilo. Lilo lives with her older sister, Nani, who is struggling to find a job and keep Lilo and herself from being separated. Stitch is adjusting to planet Earth by causing mischief and trying to seem like a normal dog. The CGI version of Stitch looks really promising. He looks like the loveable, adorable alien that fans love, but one that also causes mayhem for the humans around him.

Some audiences were a little disappointed with the casting due to the representation of Hawaiian culture, particularly with the skin color of actress Sydney Agudong as “Nani,” even though she was born and raised on the island of Kaua’i, Hawaii. Others were delighted with the casting, due to Disney actually casting Hawaiian natives in the movie.

The movie is doing a great job so far at representing Hawaiian culture and has audiences anticipating its release.
