BHM SPOTLIGHT: Today we recognize Rosa Parks because it is her birthday! Ms. Parks was named one of the most influential people in the 20th century by Time Magazine. She's best known for her role in the 1955 Montgomery Bus Boycott. Happy Birthday, Rosa Parks!

Black History Month (BHM) Spotlight: We have blood banks in America to help doctors and nurses save lives thanks to a Black physician named Dr. Charles Richard Drew. Dr. Drew created a way to store blood in the 1930s.

Our FIRST Spotlight! Carter G. Woodson is known as the “Father of Black History” as he created the celebration that eventually became Black History Month. Graduating in 1912, Woodson was just the second Black American to graduate from Harvard University with a doctorate degree.

Hawthorne brings a new month in, in style!!! Dancing our way into February this morning in Music Class with Mr. Butler!

Today marks the beginning of Black History Month. It honors black people from all periods of U.S. history, from the enslaved people first brought over from Africa in the early 17th century to African Americans living in the United States today. There is so much to celebrate!

When a Hawthorne staff/faculty member sees a class doing an amazing job showing CORE (Civility, Order, Respect, & Excellence), they are able to fill out a Class Compliment. That class receives the compliment from our administrators! How great it is to show CORE all the time!

Bessie Coleman was born on this day in 1892 and became the first African American woman to earn a pilot's license in the year 1921. Thank you for paving the way for future generations. Today, Hawthorne celebrates Bessie Coleman and all of her accomplishments.
