Don't forget, we're celebrating all of the COREtastic things that have happened this quarter, starting TOMORROW!!!! See you bright and early Monday morning dressed as your favorite character!!
Good afternoon, Hawthorne!
Our Hawks are just as excited as I am about our Books -> Movie display! This display was inspired by the upcoming release of the Dog Man movie (Jan 31st, 2025) so we will be talking about these books for a couple months.
I love hearing them look at the board and say "I didn't know that was a book-- I want to read it!"
The interesting thing is that many movies come from novels, which are our least circulated genre here at Hawthorne. Kids today have a lower reading stamina due to the increase in instant media that they're able to access. I'm very excited to talk to them in the coming months about increasing their endurance for reading long-form stories such as these.
Choice plays a huge role in getting children excited about reading, with familiar characters only helping with that. That's why we LOVE libraries and allowing students access to thousands of books. We want them to make those choices that lead to a love of reading.
If your student comes home with a chapter book, I encourage you to help them get started! The first couple chapters can be the hardest, and family engagement can make a world of difference.

The Veteran’s Day Program includes all of Fourth Grade and Second Grade; it is TOMORROW (November 7, 2024) at 10:45am. Students can wear something red, white, or blue, or something they are comfortable performing in.
Your student has been working so hard, and I cannot wait to see it all come together!
Our performance will be held in our new gymnasium! Please enter the door at bus lot on the East side of the building. This will take you directly to the gymnasium.
Please sign and return the paper stating that you will do your best to have your child at school on Thursday, November 7 to perform in the brief Veteran’s Day Program.
