Today, we recognize a unique and underrepresented perspective on the Haitian Revolution, the first country in the Western Hemisphere that abolished slavery. Playwright and poet, Marie Vieux-Chauvet, tells the story of this pivotal historical moment from a woman's perspective.


Today, we honor James Timothy"Mudcat"GrantJr. 2-time All-Star baseball player & named The Sporting News American League Pitcher of the Year in 1965. He used his position as a player to raise awareness of racial injustice & joins the list of athletes who rallied for what’s right.

GEORGE WASHINGTON CARVER: Popularized peanut butter, and invented hundreds of uses for peanuts, soybeans, pecans, and sweet potatoes.
